ACUPUNCTURE

Used predominantly in traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture has become more mainstream in recent years, particularly in the area of pain management.

Conditions acupuncture may be prescribed for include:

  • Allergies & hay fever
  • Anxiety & depression
  • Arthritis
  • Circulatory problems
  • Digestive complaints
  • Insomnia & fatigue
  • Menopause
  • Muscle & soft tissue pain
  • Stress
  • Smoking - can help patients to quit
  • How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into the skin to restore balance to the body and encourage healing. At Back In Motion, our registered practitioners use pre-sterilised single-use, medical grade acupuncture needles to stimulate various points in your body.

Acupuncture needles are inserted into the skin at specific points to help stimulate the meridians — the body's pathways of energy or qi. The placement of needles depends on the focus of your treatment and our practitioners will discuss this with you at your initial consultation.

  • Does acupuncture hurt?

When acupuncture is performed by a registered practitioner, it is pain free. This is because the needles are very fine (approximately 0.2mm in diameter). The patient may feel a slight warmth or tingling at the insertion site, but many people report feeling nothing.

You do not require a referral for an acupuncture treatment, simply contact our Innisfail practice to book an appointment.

CUPPING

Cupping is a traditional Chinese medicinal therapy used to open the meridians of the body to encourage energy flow. It may help the body to detoxify, promote lymph and blood circulation, and relieve muscle tension.

Cupping therapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Allergies & hay fever
  • Anxiety & depression
  • Arthritis
  • Circulatory problems
  • Digestive complaints
  • Insomnia & fatigue
  • Menopause
  • Muscle & soft tissue pain
  • Stress
  • Smoking — can help patients quit
  • How does cupping work?

Suction cups are placed on the skin and left for a few minutes. The slight vacuum created causes the skin to redden and rise into the cup as the blood vessels expand. The treatment can affect tissue up to 10 cm under the skin and consequently, provides a deep tissue massage.

  • Does cupping hurt?

Cupping is a relatively painless treatment although some patients may find it mildly uncomfortable. Your therapist will discuss the process with you at your consultation and modify your treatment as required.

  • Will a cupping treatment leave marks?

In many cases, cupping therapy does leave marks, which look like round bruises. These marks are harmless, and in most cases, they will disappear within 10 days. How long the marks take to fade depends on how much suction is used during your session and how long the cups are left in place.
